Realism and Perspective

Realism looks to be getting pretty popular these days. There are entire websites devoted to Tattoo Realism, displaying hundreds of pictures like the one to the left. The text tells us that when photojournalists cross over into surrealism or something other than realism, "we object." I can't surrender to this point, however because I often see unrealistic photo journals, depicting the abnormal and the sensational, instead of the "real" picture. Besides, how can we know that the image has not been edited or photo-shopped. We can't, to go back to Marx, we are subjected to whatever the News, or any other producers, give us. Thereby tying us to a false reality, or consciousness. Realism, as much as it claims to objective, is in fact very subjective.
